Kaizer Chiefs Issue Apology for Fans’ Rowdy Behaviour
Kaizer Chiefs have formally apologised for their fans’ “poor and unacceptable” behaviour.
Last month, frustrated fans pelted coach Molefi Ntseki with projectiles and other objects following Chiefs’ 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee subsequently fined Chiefs R100 000, “of which R30 000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offence,” according to Zola Majavu, the league’s official prosecutor.
Amakhosi were also instructed to make an apology, which they did in an official letter posted on their website on Tuesday, 5 September.
“Kaizer Chiefs hereby unreservedly apologises to the PSL, all PSL member clubs, TS Galaxy FC and all of its peace-loving supporters, for the behaviour of some of its supporters at the Club’s PSL fixture against TS Galaxy FC,” the letter reads.
“The Club [sic] condemns this poor and unacceptable behaviour in the strongest possible terms. We have commenced a process of engaging with Kaizer Chiefs’ branches on supporter behaviour at football matches.”
